Steal the Look: Sofia Vergara at the Emmys

What an exciting night on the red carpet at the Emmy’s!

One of the highlights? Sofia Vergara! Emmy-winner Sofia Vergara of ABC’s “Modern Family” teamed up with hair care brand Suave Professionals to let America choose her red carpet hairstyle for the annual television awards.

Vergara turned heads on the big night with her glamour waves style by Suave Professionals Celebrity Stylist Jenny Cho, the winning look voted for by thousands of Americans. Sofia’s entire award show look – the dress and the Suave Professionals products used to create the winning look – will be auctioned by the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation (www.clothesoffourback.org/suave) to benefit children’s charities across the globe starting Monday, August 30 at 8:00 a.m. EST.

Love the glamorous wavy look? Jenny Cho shares tips on getting Sofia’s glam waves:

1. Start off with a good foundation using Suave Professionals Almond and Shea Butter Shampoo and Conditioner. This will deliver moisture to the hair before styling.

2. Before blow drying, apply a small amount of Suave Professionals Healthy Curls Mousse to towel dried hair. This will help shape the curls and hold them in place.

3. Next, spray Suave Freeze Hold Hairspray onto small sections of hair before wrapping the section around a 2 inch barrel curling iron. For loose, voluminous waves, don’t close the tongue of the curling iron!

4. Finish off the look with the Suave Professionals Volumizing Finishing Spray. The lightweight formula will keep your curls intact without weighing them down.

Jenna Fischer at the Emmys

Jenna Fischer star of the award winning show The Office looked simply stunning in her coral form fitting dress with a simple yet sophisticated hair style.  I would love to get this look but it always seems to fall flat after a few hours. We consulted with TRESemme Celebrity Stylist Mara Roszak, who created this loose, elegant waves for Jenna Fischer at the Emmy’s. Roszak shares her tips on how to get the look and have it last all night.

Get Jenna Fischer’s Emmy Hair Style:

1) Start by parting hair slightly off center when the hair is damp. Next, apply TRESemme 24 Hour Body Root Boosting Spray to roots and brush through.

2) Distribute a dime-sized amount of TRESemme Fresh Start No-Frizz Creme to the ends, and blow dry hair smooth with a medium-sized round brush.

3) Once dry, create natural-looking waves with a 1 1/4″ barrel curling iron rotating the direction of the iron, leaving the ends of the hair out. Gently tease the crown for a little extra height.

3) Break up the waves with fingers, and finish with TRESemme Naturals Finishing Spray. To calm any fly aways, spray a little on fingertips and pat down.

Steal the Look: Lea Michele at Emmy Awards

Last night’s 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy awards showcased the brightest stars in television — and I was there to see all the action.

Obviously, the beauty and fashion that abounded was where my interest was centered, and nominee Lea Michele looked hot.

Lea was a nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her breakout role in “Glee,” and celebrity editorial stylist Mark Townsend created a modern and fresh hair look for Lea Michele. “Lea wanted her hair to look touchable and super modern, and full hair with lots of volume and a bit of roughness was perfect against her flawless gown” said stylist Mark Townsend.

Here’s how to get Lea Michele’s look:

1) Lea’s look started with clean hair. She used Dove Daily Treatment Conditioner to give softness and smoothness in the time it takes to use a conditioner.

2) The end-of-Summer timing of the Emmys is a perfect opportunity to play with color. Lea is still shooting episodes of “Glee” and we couldn’t do anything permanent, so I added in a few custom pieces of hair to add dimension and giver her removable highlights for the evening. The result was a golden/coppery effect throughout the ends of her hair.

3) I wanted Lea’s hair to move in all different directions, so I added in Dove Body & Lift Volumizing Mousse throughout damp her and blow dried with a round brush to add lift.

4) Next spray 3 inch sections of hair with Dove Heat Defense Therapy Mist to protect hair against heat styling damage before using an iron

5) Then use a 2 inch curling iron to give a subtle bend or ‘S’ curl, rather than a perfect curl. Curl from the ends all the way up, and set each section with a barrel clip for 5 to 7 minutes or until cool.

6) Scrunch hair with Dove Daily Moisture Therapy Replenishing Mist to add moisture and blow dry briefly without a diffuser to look a bit undone.

7) Warm a pea-sized amount of Dove Frizz Control Therapy Taming Cream between the palms of hands. Rake fingers through hair to distribute product evenly for shiny, modern texture.

8) To evoke Brigitte Bardot inspiration, tease hair at the crown for extra volume and lift.

9) To finish Lea’s look I sprayed Dove Unscented Extra Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement (Aerosol) liberally on a small, natural bristle eyebrow brush (the kind that looks like a wooden toothbrush) and ran it through her bangs to hold a middle part. The parted bangs gave a modern update to the 60’s vibe of her hair.

10) I gave Lea a 2 oz. Dove Extra Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement and the natural eyebrow brush to take with her in case she needed a touchup.

Steal the look: January Jones on the Red Carpet

January Jones was vying for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her iconic role in “Mad Men,” — but she was also in competition for one of the hottest women I saw on the red carpet yesterday. (Yes, I was there! Right there on the carpet with throngs of celebrities!)

“January has to maintain very specific hair style for her show, so she doesn’t have the freedom to cut her hair. A modern, asymmetrical bob was the perfect way to have fun with her look,” says editorial stylist Mark Townsend, for Dove Hair Care, who created January’s look for the event.

Mark Townsend created an edgy, fashion-forward look for January Jones. “A textured, asymmetrical bob was the perfect way to incorporate January’s love of editorial fashion and runway style into a feminine, yet tough look,” said stylist Mark Townsend.

Here’s how to get January Jones’s look:

1) The night before, use Dove Intensive Repair Damage Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner to strengthen hair and prevent damage.

2) Second day texture was key to achieve this runway-meets-Hollywood look, so I pre-styled her hair the night before. Distribute Dove Curl & Sculpt Defining Mousse throughout and blow dry hair with round brush to add lift

3) Set top sections of hair with large, 3 inch Velcro rollers for 15-20 minutes. While rollers set, add extensions in the front only to make hair longer in the front and shorter in the back.

4) Spritz throughout with Dove Heat Defense Therapy Mist to protect against styling damage.

5) Wrap 1 ½ to 2 inch sections of hair around a 1 inch curling iron to create a big, loose wave instead of a tight curl.

6) The next day, reapply mousse to add lift to hair, and blow dry gently with a round brush to freshen up ends but not set perfectly.

7) Rake a small amount of Dove Frizz Control Therapy Taming Cream through hair to add smoothness.

8) Finish the look by spraying Dove Flexible Hold Hairspray with Natural Movement (Aerosol) to set the style but still allow movement.

What is up with Blue? Juliette Lewis

juliette lewis, juliette lewis hair, juliette lewis hair style

What is up with Blue?  I have seen celebs rocking blue hair, blue lipstick, blue makeup, etc.  Blue Blue Blue.  So I ask you all what is up with Blue?  Is this a throwback to the 80’s or is it a homage to the blockbuster movie Avatar?

Juliette Lewis was spotted at the premiere of her new movie The Switch in a blue highlighted hair do.  I don’t think it is that flattering nor does it bring out anything in her hair but more power to her.   Insiders say she is channeling her rocker chick personality.

So what do you think of the Blue do and the popularity of blue?  Let us know.

Maintain Your Summer Hair Color

kristen red hairSummer is all about getting bold with your color.

Whether you’re seeing red like Kristen, lightening up like Miley, or going bold like Rihanna, the combination of the heat and sun leads to faster fading color. Celebrity stylist Riccardo Maggiore (who has coiffed the locks of Brooke Shields, Helena Christensen and Sarah Jessica Parker at his NYC salon) gave us a few tips and tricks to help your color last through the season into the fall.

Tip #1: Avoid daily shampooing in the summer, which not only dries out your hair (especially if you’re out in the sun a lot), but really makes your color fade faster. Instead of washing every day, try a dry shampoo like Klorane in between washes to get rid of any oiliness (Psssst is a great affordable brand and a favorite among top celeb stylists). Simply spray at the roots, massage into the scalp, and brush the product through hair.

Tip #2: Heat tools will also cause color to fade faster, so try to work with your hair’s natural texture, but if you find yourself in a moment where you HAVE to use your blow dryer or flat iron, definitely use a heat protective spray prior to styling which creates a barrier around the hair shaft to provide protection from extreme temperatures.

Tip #3: Redheads already have trouble keeping their hair color vibrant, but especially so in the summer. If you’ve gone red for the summer, consider weekly or bi-weekly gloss treatments (some even help deposit color back into the hair) at your salon to help with the maintenance.

Steal the Look: Hot Summer Braids

Headband braid, braid, summer braidsSummer is all about staying cool – but looking hot. A great way to do this is to braid our hair, and it happens to be one of the sexiest looks this season. Forget the days of “Little House on the Prairie,” today’s braid is an updated version of the classic that’s perfect for a long day at the office or even a night out on the town that work on every hair type.
While on a recent flight, I was thumbing through the summer issue of Women’s Health magazine — it shows you a version that’s perfect for keeping hair off your face or for that dreaded “growing out your bangs” period.

Let’s try one!

Headband Braid
1. Make a horizontal line two inches back from your hairline and separate that front section of hair. Leave the rest loose.
2. Starting at the left side of the head, just above your ear, French braid until you reach your right ear.
3. Secure the braid with elastic and tuck the ends behind your right ear. Curl the rest of your hair with a curling iron.

And, even when you eventually rinse your locks, you’ll be amazed at how your gleaming mane is virtually ‘wash & go’ (click to view ‘before & after’ photos). Unlike Japanese straightening or other Brazilian keratin treatments which use harsh chemicals and contaminate your hair with toxins, Brazilian blowouts are all the rage because they use a formaldehyde-free formula that actually promises to improve the health of your hair. It’s no wonder Nicole Richie swears by it, and avid fans insist you’ll be amazed at your new silky smooth look.

The Brazilian blowout is a hugely popular method for eradicating frizz. The 90-min treatment (formaldehyde-free) uses a nutrient complex and proprietary polymer system to create protective sheaths of protein around each strand of hair (click to read more at www.brazilianblowout.com). The result is strengthened tresses, cuticles filled with enriched keratin, and locks bathed and moisturized in softening botanical extracts. It’s the gift that keeps on giving as your radiant follicles last for up to 12 weeks (or longer with maintenance). GC Salon and Spa’s expert stylists are highly trained in the techniques needed for Brazilian blowouts – and the salon is among the few in New York City that is Brazilian blowout-certified.
