I was so geared up for the Academy Awards last night. Watching my favorite celebs all decked out in the most glamorous gowns, dripping with jewels, and perfectly coiffed as they sashay down the red carpet oozing fabulosity. This year’s hair focus seemed less glamour goddess and more casual chic. Lots of simple ponytails, sweeping side parts and choppy bangs. For the most part, I liked the hair styles – think straight without being overly slick or polished. Of course there were a few “what was her stylist thinking?” moments that I had to GASP over, but even those are all in good fun. Gossiping over the flops is part of the whole armchair Oscar experience! Plus, I want to be prepared for those entertainment show recaps don’t I?
Here are the hairstyling highlights of the evening and my own award-winners:
Pretty Ponys- Everyone from Miley Cyrus to Cameron Diaz pulled a pony. Smooth but not sleek, posh but not polished. Sophisticated, but not serious. Who rocked it: Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway.
Sweeping Side Parts- A side part can be very flattering, especially when the hair slightly covers one eye ala Veronica Lake. Slightly ‘come hither’ without being overtly sexy. Who swept it best: Amy Adams, Marion Cotillard (pictured).
Controlled Curls- Though not too many carefree curls last night, I say kudos to Katherine Heigl and Julie Christie. My favorite was Diane Lane, she chose Hollywood glamour and it showed last night – absolutely curl-licious.
Beautiful Buns- These starlets were spotted sporting stylish buns in and out of the oven – Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman. My pick for most becoming bun of the evening: Heidi Klum.
Fringe Bangs- Think choppy not Cleopatra – spotted on Jennifer Hudson and Diablo Cody. And the winner is? Diablo Cody, hands down. She’s also my pick for best hair of the evening.
OMG! Miley has been all over the place. I definitely like it!
