4 Steps to Keeping Your Hair Healthy

Damaged Hair CuticleDoes your hair looks like it went through a small forest fire? Follow these simple steps to retain and regain lustrous shine and body in your lifeless locks.

Get Your Haircut

Although last on our list, receiving a good haircut or trim is especially important in maintaining the overall health of our hair.  Ideally you should be receiving a trim every 6 – 8 weeks.  A routine haircut will rid your hair of both split ends and dryness which contribute to the lackluster look of your hair.  Getting a haircut regularly will reduce dryness and frizziness and will allow your hair to radiate health

Don’t Over-Shampoo
Did you know that over shampooing your hair can strip your scalp of vital oils which it needs to stay healthy?  Simple answer; do not over-shampoo!  The solution is to shampoo your hair every other day.  This will allow the oils in your hair to penetrate the scalp and increase the health of your hair.  Of course you can rinse your hair daily but limit the shampooing.

Deep Condition

A monthly deep conditioning treatment with either your regular conditioner, deep conditioning treatment, or any oil you have at home is a great way to increase the health of your hair.  Set aside a few hours each month and lather the conditioner/oil on your hair and scalp.  Allow the conditioner/oil to sit in your hair for anywhere between 5 minutes and an hour then shampoo as normal. You will immediately notice the difference!

Let Your Hair Rest

As we all move on to professional grade hair appliances with more power and more heat it is important for everyone to let their hair rest.  Taking a week off from the normal drying, curling, and ironing and allowing your hair to naturally dry is an important step in helping to keep your hair super shiny and healthy.
