Creating a Prom-Ready Updo

During my red-carpet foray, it became clear as a sunny LA day that updos were very much a favorite look at this year’s ceremony.

Sarah Jessica, J Lo, Nicole Richie, Penelope Cruz, Kristin Stewart and countless others donned various forms of this sleek and timeless look; one that can easily be a look you can steal for your own special occasions.

There’s a brand new Samy Molding Wax that will be available in April that is perfect for this style — it can be used on dry hair to shape and set your hairstyle. It’s maximum hold formula that will keep an updo in place without weighing it down.

For more volume in your ‘do, you may want to aspire to Miley Cyrus’ voluminous updo! For that style, we’re all about Profound Beauty Stylist Volume Power. Spraying at a whopping 75 mph, this light styling spray gives your locks a big boost!

For a more sophisticated look, Jennifer Lopez was dazzling on the Oscar red carpet, wearing a beautiful Armani Prive dress, accented by an elegantly texturized updo created by master stylist Robert Vetica.
To create the look, Vetica started by applying Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream on wet hair to create smoothness and shine. After blow-drying hair straight he section hair off and created two ponytails, an inch apart, one on top of the other to create volume below the crown of the head.

Next, Vetica used a curling iron on each ponytail to create texture, then brushed them out for width and volume. After creating the shape of the updo, he strategically pulled out stands throughout the look to create a modern textured effect using flyaways around the forehead to further soften.
No matter how you do your ‘do, the possibilities are endless!
