Quick Tip – Getting Gum Out Of Hair

bubblegum, bubblegum in hair, get bubblegum out of hairEek! While enjoying Halloween festivities, one of your little ones has managed to get a wad of chewing gum stuck in her hair. What do you do? She’s panicking, you’re grossed out – don’t reach for those scissors! Getting gum out of hair is relatively easy with things you already have around the house.

Ice

Fill a bag with ice and hold it against the gum in the hair. Once cold, the gum should be a lot easier to carefully comb out with your fingers. If not, try the next suggestions.

Baby Oil

Grease up the gum with baby oil (other oils like almond oil or coconut oil work too, but who has those on hand?). Once again, pry free carefully with your fingers or a wide tooth comb.

Peanut Butter

Instead of baby oil, many people swear by peanut butter as a cure for getting gum out of hair. Rub the peanut butter into the gum, and then comb the gum out.

When removing gum from hair, you may want to combine methods and use ice and oil or ice and peanut butter. Either way, a sure fire tip to make sure you have it all out is to then wash that area of the hair with dish soap. After that you can just wash with regular shampoo. These suggestions should help you prevent a disastrous unplanned haircut the next time someone gets gum in their hair!
