With all of the parties and pictures happening this holiday season, you may be wanting to amp up your look with some falsies. False lashes that is! Applying them can be intimidating. In fact, it’s one of the number one things makeup artists get asked to do! It doesn’t have to be scary or difficult, and there are a lot of tips that can make it easier for you. Before applying lashes, you’ll want to make sure your own lashes are already curled. It helps them blend with the false lashes.
1. Trim Your Lashes to Fit!
When you get your set of falsies, hold them up to your eye, lining up the inner corner of the lash strip with where your lashes begin on the inner corners of your eyes. If the outer edge of the lash strip goes much past your natural lash line, you’ll need to trim your lashes. Wearing lashes that haven’t been properly trimmed can make them buckle, bend, or lift. Not to mention it’s very uncomfortable!
2. Pre-Bend Your Lashes
If you’re working with strip lashes, they’ll be packaged in a relatively flat container like pictured here. You’ll want to pull them out and kind of bend/flex them back and forth a little to make the strip more flexible. If they’ve been stored in a very cold environment you may even want to hit them with a very light, quick blast from your hair dryer.
3. Glue 101
Always make sure you’re using actual eyelash glue. Don’t use anything else! The most popular eyelash glue is DUO Lash Adhesive. It’s available at any drugstore or beauty store. It’s way better than the glue that comes with most false lashes. I prefer the kind that comes out white and dries clear. It’s easier to squeeze out a little glue onto the back of your hand, or a palette. You can then use the edge of a tweezer or a pointed q-tip to apply the glue to the lash strip. You want enough glue to have some on all of the strip, but not much excess. After you’ve applied the glue to the lash strip, wait a minute or two for the glue to become slightly tacky before applying your lashes.
4. Placing Your Lashes
When placing your lashes, you’ll want to place them on the skin of your eyelid as close to your actual lash line as possible. You’ll probably find it easiest to hold and place them with the help of some tweezers. Hold them in place with your tweezers while the glue dries.
5. Blending Your Lashes
Once the glue has dried on your lashes, you can cover up any visible glue easily with eyeliner. It’s optional, but you may also want to apply a little mascara to all the lashes (yours and the false ones) to blend them together.
Before you know it, you’ll be applying your lashes like a pro!
